About the Artist

Brian Romagnoli  is a leading Historical Artist & Muralist.

Born in St.Catharines, Ontario (west of Niagara Falls), Brian Romagnoli (Rome-a-No-lee) was raised in the neighbouring Town of Lincoln, a picturesque community in the Niagara Region known for its fruit orchards, vineyards and wine production.  For more than a century, Brian's family has been involved in farming, trades and professions in Canada, which have left indelible impressions upon his character and work ethic.

A graduate of both the Ontario College of Art & Design University in Toronto, and the University of Guelph (Ontario), Brian continued with post-graduate study at the British Institute in Florence, Italy, the cradle of the Renaissance.  During his year of study in Europe, Brian experienced first-hand the works of Old Masters amidst a treasury of Art & Architecture from Antiquity to the present.  The exposure to other cultures and languages would also gain him further understanding and appreciation of the business and academic worlds.

In the years following, Brian's career would involve such diverse fields as graphic design & advertising, art publishing & promotion, architectural concept & rendering, medical illustration, archival research, museum conservation, heritage restoration consulting, public speaking, history writing, portraiture, heraldry, historical art & murals.  Since 1985, several of Brian's historically themed paintings have been published as limited editions, and his reputation has endured from coast to coast.  In 1988, when the City of Hamilton, ON twinned with the City of Maanshaw (Anhui near Shanghai), China, several pieces of Brian's artwork were chosen to accompany the Mayor's delegation to China as representative of Canadian culture.  In 1990, he was the first Canadian to be commissioned to design a series of collector plates for Royal Copenhagen of Denmark, one of the world's oldest manufacturers of fine porcelain.  For Canada's 125th Anniversary in 1992, Brian's mural painting "From Sea Unto Sea" was published as a poster and distributed to school boards, libraries, museums, political offices, foreign embassies, and the patriotic.  Lauded by historians as a vital "heritage-primer", this landmark piece was acknowledged by many notables including the Governor General, Prime Minister, and the R.C.M.P. Commissioner.

Perhaps the most memorable moment in Brian's career to date was the  1997 presentation of his mural painting "500 Years of Royal Canada" to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II in a private ceremony at Her Majesty's official Canadian residence, Rideau Hall in the nation's capital of Ottawa.  Culminating a year's work by the artist, the sumptuous 4 1/2 ' x 7 1/2 ' piece is an expression of pageantry & patriotism, chronicling five centuries of the Monarchy in Canada.  It features an R.C.M.P.-led cavalcade, portraits of all 32 Monarchs, and a montage of over 500 hand-rendered archival images of notable people, places, symbols and events relating to Canada's Royal past.

Over the past two decades, Brian has designed & painted over 45 giant historical murals for industries & businesses, government institutions, and various communities throughout Canada.  Some reach heights of 50' high or 100' wide, while others are specially designed & tailored to hang in office lobbies and boardrooms.  Clients and sponsors have ranged from cities and towns to major corporations - each with their own individual story to tell.  One of Brian's strengths is his ability to research and edit the most important and relevant information pertaining to a community or company's history, and then assemble it into an attractive and cohesive composition that is both legible and understandable to all who are viewing it.  This "definitive" approach to our heritage has won him praise from many leaders in business and politics.

Concurrent with his professional life, Brian has over the years accepted many leadership roles in the local Heritage community of Niagara, including Past Chairmanship of : the Lincoln Heritage Committee, the Niagara Regional Architectural Heritage Association, and the Jordan Historical Museum Board of Trustees.  In 1995-96, Brian was a charter member of the Niagara Gateway Project Steering Committee, which led to the Bi-National Gateway Expo and Doors Open Niagara-Western New York ;  In 2002, he received the Award of Excellence in the Arts from the Canadian Italian Business & Professional Association.  Expressing his loyalty to Queen & Country, Brian became a charter member of the Niagara Branch of the Monarchist League of Canada.  On the recommendation of the Toronto-based Canadian Royal Heritage Trust, Brian became the recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in early 2003.  In his own community, Brian was a charter member of both the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Lincoln (ON), and was later made a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and Honorary Member by the Rotary Club of Essex (ON) in 2006.

Although peers have recognized him as a leader, and many admire his work, Brian has never sought accolades, choosing instead a path of service, dedication to family, and acknowledgement of God as the giver of all things, including his talent.  Over the years, the trust he has cultivated among his patrons and the public have permitted him opportunities of regional, national, and international scale.  For Brian, tomorrow always brings new joys and challenges in the preservation and increase of our collective heritage.
